मिर्जा गालिब या मिर्जा असदुल्लाह बेग खान का जन्म 27 दिसंबर 1797 को आगरा उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था। कहा जाता है कि गालिब ने सिर्फ 11 साल की उम्र में शायरी लिखने की शुरुआत कर दी थी। मिर्जा मुगल साम्राज्य के अंतिम वर्षों में उर्दू और फारसी के शायर के तौर पर मशहूर हुए। 27 दिसंबर को उनके जन्म दिन को लेकर पढ़ते हैं उनकी कुछ चुनिंदा शायरी-

हुई मुद्दत कि ‘ग़ालिब’ मर गया पर याद आता है,

बहुत निकले मेरे अरमान लेकिन फिर भी कम निकले

आख़िर उस शोख़ के तरकश में कोई तीर भी था

ये न थी हमारी क़िस्मत कि विसाल-ए-यार होता
अगर और जीते रहते यही इंतिज़ार होता
