मसालों के बादशाह एमडीएच ग्रुप के मालिक महाशय धर्मपाल गुलाटी का निधन हो गया है। सुबह 5.38 पर उन्होंने अंतिम सांस ली। ​​वह 98 साल के थे। कोरोना से ठीक होने के बाद हार्ट अटैक से उनका निधन हुआ। पिछले साल उन्हें पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था।

98 साल की उम्र में एमडीएच के सीईओ धरमपाल गुलाटी के पास पद्मभूषण भी था और लक्ष्मी भी। एफएमसीजी सेक्टर के सबसे ज्यादा सैलरी पाने वाले सीईआे थे । विभाजन के बाद पाकिस्तान से भारत आए इस 98 साल के बुजुर्ग के फर्श से अर्श तक पहुंचने की कहानी बेहद दिलचस्प है। उन का जन्म पाकिस्तान के सियालकोट में 27 मार्च, 1923 को हुआ था। पांच साल की उम्र में उनका स्कूल में दाखिला करवा दिया गया, लेकिन स्कूल में मन नहीं लगता था। पढ़ाई की बात आते ही कोई न कोई बहाने तलाशने लग जाते थे। जैसे-तैसे पांचवीं तक पढ़े। फिर उनके पिताजी ने अपनी मसाले की दुकान में काम के लिए लगा दिया। इस दौरान तजुर्बे के लिए कई और काम सीखे। उनकी दुकान खूब चलती थी। कुछ दिन रेहड़ी पर मेहंदी बेची।

देश विभाजन के दौरान उन्हें सियालकोट छोड़ना पड़ा, क्योंकि पूरा इलाका दंगे-फसाद की आग में बुरी तरह जलने लगा था। मार-काट के बीच जैसे तैसे अमृतसर पहुंचे और वहां अपने एक आढ़ती के यहां शरण ली। उनका वहां मन नहीं लगा। बड़े भाई धर्मवीर और एकाध रिश्तेदार के साथ दिल्ली चला आए। कुछ काम-धंधा न मिला तो तांगा चलाने लगे। इस दौरान पिता समेत पूरा परिवार दिल्ली आ गया। तांगे का काम छोड़कर तब उन्होंने अजमल खां रोड पर गुड़-शक्कर का छाबा लगाया। उससे भी मन ऊब गया। मन मसालों के पुराने कारोबार के लिए प्रेरित करता था। फिर अजमल खां रोड पर खोखा बनाकर दाल, तेल, मसालों की दुकान शुरू कर दी। तजुर्बा था, इसलिए काम चल निकला।
1960 में कीर्ति नगर में फैक्ट्री लगाई और इस तरह लंबे संघर्ष के बाद दिल्ली में एक मुकाम पा लिया। पूरे देश में एमडीएच मसालों की धूम मचने लगी और घर-घर में उनके मसालों का इस्तेमाल होने लगा। अभी एमडीएच के 60 से अधिक प्रॉडक्ट बाजार में हैं। दिल्ली के अलावा गुरुग्राम व नागौर में तीन-तीन फैक्ट्रियां हैं। पूरे देश में एमडीएच की एजेंसियां हैं। यूएस, कनाडा, पूरे यूरोप, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, जर्मनी, स्विटजरलैंड, आदि में एमडीएच का माल सप्लाई होता है।

उनके घर में छह बेटियां और दो बेटे पैदा हुए। कारोबार स्थापित हुआ तो समाज उत्थान के लिए प्रयास शुरू हुए। सत्संग होने लगे। हर शनिवार को परिवार समेत ऋषिकेश जाने लगे। वहां भजन कीर्तन करते। इच्छा और बढ़ी तो जनकपुरी में माताजी के नाम पर चन्नन देवी अस्पताल बनाया। अस्पताल के साथ-साथ दिल्ली और देश में अनेक स्कूलों, आश्रमों, गुरुकुलों का निर्माण करवाया। कई गौशालाओं का संचालन किया। खास रणनीति के तहत बढ़ी उम्र के बावजूद कंपनी का खुद ब्रैंड ऐंबैसडर बने। टीवी पर खुद विज्ञापनों का प्रचार किया। ‘असली मसाले सच-सच’ और ‘यही है असली इंडिया’ डायलॉग से उन्होंने मसालों के प्रचार को अलग अंदाज में पेश किया।

इस उम्र में भी वह रोज की तरह सुबह 4:45 बजे उठते थे। दशकों पुराना नियम है कि सुबह उठते ही तांबे के गिलास का पानी पीते थे। साथ में थोड़ा शहद। 5.25 बजे पार्क में पहुंचकर सैर, व्यायाम, आसन, प्राणायाम करते थे। खाने में सभी कुछ ‘हल्का-फुल्का’ होता था। शाम को फिर एक बार पार्क, उसके बाद हल्का खाना और 10:30 बजे बिस्तर पर। उनका कहना था कि जवान रहना है तो तीन बातों का ध्यान रखो। रोज शेव करो। एक बार दूध में मखाने जरूर डालकर पीओ और संभव हो तो बादाम के तेल की मालिश करो। बुढ़ापा पास नहीं आएगा। बैंक का चेक चाहे पांच रुपये का हो या पांच करोड़ रुपये का। वह खुद ही साइन करते थे। पूरी खरीदारी पर नजर रहती थी। वह मानते हैं कि जिंदगी मे सफल और तनावमुक्त रहने के लिए सामाजिक और धार्मिक भागीदारी जरूरी है।

दिल्ली हमेशा उनके दिल के करीब थी। वह कहते थे, ‘दिल्ली में मैंने लंबा संघर्ष किया। दुश्वारियां झेली, लोगों के धोखे खाए और परेशानियां भी झेली। लेकिन इस बात से इनकार नहीं किया जा सकता है कि दिल्ली ने बहुत कुछ दिया है। पैसा, शोहरत, मान-सम्मान और अपनापन सब कुछ दिल्ली ने दिया। मैं ही नहीं, पूरे परिवार को दिल्ली ने ऊंचाइयों तक पहुंचाया। पुरानी दिल्ली का वक्त तो अभी भी आंखों में तैर जाता है। वहां के लोग, तहजीब और भाषा। सबने सालों तक मुझे बांधे रखा। दिल्ली में मुकाम पाने वाले कई लोग दिल्ली को छोड़कर एनसीआर में जा बसे हैं। लेकिन हमारा पूरा परिवार आज भी दिल्ली में ही रहता है।’
